Personally I like the sporting chance of getting within 100 yds, or closer to my target. However, when that is not possible then I have to say 350yds is as far as I would take a shot. Then again that depends on how large an animal I am looking at through my scope. anything less than 100 yds I use Iron sights.

alright boys i should have my paperwork for my silencers in a week...:) do you all have any ideas on sub sonic loads for my AR?

hey blake have you ever tried a distance shot? cause there is a hell of a lot more to it than " just dial it up to the distance depending on certain variables". lets take 3" vitals at 1000 yds for example that is like holding on a nail head at 100. and that is just your end then YOU have to make sure that the equipment will do its job.

Thank you everyone for your input but i have run out of time to actually try the shot so i am just going to report on my research.

Fellas I'm proud owner of a Sako Deluxe 30-06 as of this evening. This rifle is NICE! Blonde stock with rosewood accents. I can't wait to get her sighted in then let her eat! On another note my partner in the outfitter business we run is a former sniper and I love to shoot long range. We are both very accurate for a LONG way down range. We are kicking around the idea of putting on a school for long range marksmanship at the ranch. This won't be a bench rest paper punch school. We will set up real hunting situations on the ranch and have you shoot targets and help you develop the confidence to get on your rifle and pull the trigger out to ranges that will surprise you. If this sounds like something you would enjoy let me know. If we get enough interest we will start planning some dates and get some prices together.

I agree , but the video is one heck of a show of shooting ablity . hey show you how and the equipment they use is now on the market. Shows them shooting a coyote at 1043 yards .

Well the best and most informative video that I have seen , is The Best of The West "beyond Belief" . They make shots on all kind of animals and all conditions. They shoot a elk at 1mile with a 50bmg

No joke, 850 with at 30-06 is way out there. There is not enough velocity in that cartridge even if you load it yourself to be consistent at that range. I shoot a 7mm mag and at 300 yards can see the effects of wind and humidity on the tragectory. You will also want to have a great bench and make sure the gun is locked down tight to remove the human error factor as one of your variables. Good luck, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with at that range it will be interesting, be sure and post the measurements on your groups.

I have a project for school and the topic is anything to deal with Weather and Climate, and i have chosen how weather effects long range shooting, does anyone have any tips for me, I am going to start off at 850yd and move forward from there, what do i need to know? I will be shooting a Savage m110 30.06
